Artist's Comments

Quick business card I made for my girlfriend's speech therapy practice. Now, if I can egg one of my printer contacts to do the die cut at cost. :)

On looking at this with fresh eyes, I'm wondering if the uvula is looking more vulva. Especially with these colors. I'm thinking it will be fine in the context in which she presents the card (I hope!).

Guess nascent thoughts may have surfaced during the design process... in which case do I have to label this "mature content"?

Thoughts and comments are welcome! TIA!

brilliant concept!!!

my first thought was of the mouth and not south, so i think there is no need for matutr content label.

only critique goes to the typography. it looks like you used a lot of typefaces here. i would reduce them to a maximum of two.

+ when it's reduced to normal business card size, i think the email and phone nr would be too small.

... and i think the lines 'kim cali' and 'speech therapist could use a higher leading (hope that's the right english term...)

but the concept with that cut-out really blows me away!!!

Phew... Maybe I'm not a complete perv, although the "mature" jibe was tongue in cheek - pun intended. :)

I agree on the typefaces, generally speaking. Being a Bauhaus/Swiss school influenced designer, I tend to stick to a fairly limited number of fonts for most instances...

That said, I thought that the texture of the card could be a little more playful since she works more with kids. And as the subject matter is one that is generally/socially seen as a point of shame rather than a disability to be overcome, I thought the tone of the card, uvula and all could be a little more light and airy - so I opened up the typographic possibilities a bit. Its still a work in progress though (I didn't have her exact ASHA credentials on hand as I was working on it - that could change the balance of the card significantly) and I think that your critique is well aimed. I will keep it in mind as I push the concept into reality...

Thanks for the feedback! Cheers,

Richard

What a great idea. I laughed at your vulva comment. Believe me, it looks fine! If you get this printed and die cut, please take a few shots of the business cards. I'd love to see.

Why thank you! yeah, I am thinking I will see what strings I can pull... A few large print jobs have earned me some sway with a couple of printers in Denver so we'll see what I can come up with. I really really want to see this come to fruition. Really.

Then the photography...

Thanks!

I don't think the uvula looks wrong. The only thing I might change about it is make the ball part of the uvula a bit bigger. However, the color is nice because it's not red, which therapy wise is like an anger color but it's a good shade of pink so that it looks like the inside of a mouth.

Wonderful! :D
